tiniball.gif (195 bytes) 29/04: Away v. GODSHILL, April 29th

The trip down to the Isle Of Wight on the Friday was made in rather wet conditions, thankfully the last of the unusually large amount of rainfall in the previous weeks. Unfortunately the sun came out too late to prevent the first game not only of the season, but also the tour being cancelled.

tiniball.gif (195 bytes) 31/04: Away v. RYDE, (40 overs)

Having lost the previous game to the rather wetter than usual conditions, we strove to ensure the last two games went ahead. Thus, as Ryde's own ground was going to be unplayable we ironically booked Godshill's ground which was drying out nicely. The home team put out a stronger side than we could muster and it showed, their score gathering pace as the overs went by. Interestingly enough for a game where each bowler is limited to a maximum of eight overs, Tim bowled nine.
Dan Eldridge entered legendary status in this match for the marvellous way he dealt with one particular delivery. Having got more or less "in", he decided not to play at the ball now approaching him. Standing a little back from the line Dan watched intently, his head turning with the ball but stopping merely momentarily as the ball removed the bails. Pure class. And it's on video.

Ventnor were also struggling to use their pitch so it was switched to the Local Middle school's ground instead. The home team sported possibly a stronger side than Ryde, featuring a Shane Warne protégée and Hampshire's Young Player of the Year 1999. Perhaps we could have done a bit better with too many catching chances going begging, especially off Tim Lamb.
Adie Barrett is already in the lead for the "Your Shit - AARRGGHH!" award for 25 off one over. Oh dear, and it's on video. At least it was a nice day.
